Airlines generally offer several types of luggage that you can carry on your journey.
| Important: each airline, whether low-cost or charter, has its own luggage regulations. We recommend that you carefully check the permitted weight and size of each piece of luggage before your departure, either directly from your booking area or on your travel documents. This information can also be found on the airline’s website.
Hand luggage
Although hand luggage and cabin luggage are sometimes considered the same, more and more airlines, particularly low-cost carriers, are making a distinction between the two. Here are the main characteristics of this type of luggage:
- Size and weight: size and weight restrictions vary depending on the airline. Generally, hand luggage can be a small backpack, handbag, laptop bag, baby bag, or briefcase, and is often accepted free of charge by many airlines.
- Please note: the luggage must fit under the seat in front of you and is subject to specific size and weight regulations. We advise you to check the airline’s website before your departure.
Cabin luggage
- Size and weight: size and weight restrictions vary depending on the airline. Cabin luggage usually refers to a small suitcase or backpack that must be stowed in the overhead compartment. On average, the allowed weight ranges between 7 kg and 10 kg, and the size can be up to 55 cm x 35 cm x 20 cm. Be sure to verify this information in your booking area or on your travel documents before your departure.
- Please note: this luggage may incur a fee depending on the airline.
Hold luggage or checked luggage
- Size and weight: each airline has its own limits for the weight and dimensions of hold luggage. Typically, hold luggage weighs between 23 and 32 kg, with a size of approximately 70 cm x 50 cm x 30 cm. Be sure to verify this information in your booking area or on your travel documents before your departure.
- Please note: although this depends on each airline’s regulations, in general, on domestic or short-haul flights, hold luggage is no longer included in the ticket price and is subject to additional fees. On long-haul flights, it is more common for hold luggage to be included, though this is not guaranteed. If you wish to add hold luggage after your booking, you can consult our article on this topic.
Special luggage
- Types: this refers to luggage that is unusual in size, weight, or nature, such as sports equipment (bicycles, skis, surfboards), musical instruments, pushchairs, or wheelchairs.
- Please note: these items may incur additional fees. It is mandatory to request the addition of special luggage directly on the airline’s website.
