As of April 1st, 2025, British citizens must obtain a tourist visa, even for a short stay.
Do I need a visa to travel to Namibia?
Yes, a tourist visa is mandatory, even for stays under 90 days.
How do I get my visa?
Option 1: Online application (recommended)
The visa can be requested on the official website: https://eservices.mhaiss.gov.na/#.
Make sure to select the “Visa on Arrival” option not “Holiday Visa". Payment is made by credit card.
Option 2: Visa on arrival
You can also obtain the visa upon arrival, but only at specific entry points, namely the airports of Windhoek and Walvis Bay, as well as the land borders of Impalila Island, Katima Mulilo, Mohembo, Ngoma, Noordoewer, Oranjemund, Oshikango, and Trans-Kalahari. It is advisable to bring cash in Namibian dollars (NAD) or South African rands (ZAR), as this visa option is not available at other border posts.
How much does the visa cost?
The visa fee is around 1,600 Namibian dollars (NAD), which is approximately £70.
The cost is the same whether you apply online or on arrival.
Do I need to print my visa?
Yes. If you apply online, it is strongly recommended to print a paper copy of your visa approval before departure.
Although some immigration officers may accept a digital version on your phone, a printed copy makes the process smoother and avoids any issues if your device fails or there's no internet access.
What do I need to enter Namibia?
To be allowed entry, you’ll need:
- A passport valid for at least 6 months after your departure date from Namibia
- A return ticket or proof of onward travel
- Proof of accommodation (e.g. hotel reservation)
- Proof of sufficient funds for your stay
Travelling with children
If you are travelling with a child, you must present their birth certificate.
If only one parent is accompanying the child, you’ll also need a written consent letter from the other parent and a copy of their ID or passport.
Health
No vaccines are required for travellers coming from the UK.
However, it is recommended to be up to date with routine vaccinations, and to consider vaccinations against hepatitis A and typhoid.
If you plan to visit the north of Namibia, an antimalarial treatment is also recommended.
