If your baggage is not delivered upon arrival, follow these steps to recover it or, if necessary, claim compensation from the airline.
Reporting a delayed bag
- Report it at the airport: Before leaving, go to the baggage service desk to report your missing luggage. You will need to present your baggage receipt and fill out a Property Irregularity Report (PIR).
- Get your reference number: After submitting your report, you will receive a reference number—keep this safe, as it will allow you to track your baggage status.
- Online declaration: Some airlines allow you to report a missing bag online via their website, within 48 hours of arrival.
Claiming reimbursement for essential expenses
If your delayed baggage has caused you to purchase essential items (such as toiletries or clothing), you have 21 days from when your bag is returned to request a reimbursement from the airline.
│ Important: Keep all receipts, as they may be required to process your claim.
Compensation for lost baggage
If your baggage is not found within 21 days, it is officially considered lost. In this case, you can claim compensation from the airline. Compensation amounts are regulated by the Montreal Convention, which sets a maximum reimbursement limit.
By following these steps, you can increase the chances of recovering your luggage or obtaining appropriate compensation in case of loss.
